MAJOR MILESTONE IN SENIOR HOUSING SUPPORT FOR SOUTH FLORIDA

LOFTS ON 6TH - AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMUNITY

Lofts on 6th is a transformative new affordable housing community designed to provide stability, dignity, and connection for Broward County seniors. Developed through a partnership between The Pantry of Broward and Green Mills Group, this $45 million mixed-use development will bring 90 affordable one-bedroom residences for low-income seniors to the heart of Fort Lauderdale, along with modern community amenities and a new home for The Pantry of Broward’s operations.

More than just housing, Lofts on 6th is being created as a community-centered environment where seniors can live safely, access support services, and remain connected to the people and resources around them. By co-locating affordable housing with nonprofit services, the development is designed to reduce barriers to food assistance, case management, wellness support, and social engagement for older adults living on fixed incomes.

THE PANTRY'S COMMITMENT

Founded in 2008, The Pantry of Broward has long served vulnerable seniors and grandparents raising grandchildren through nutritional support, school supply assistance, and family services. The organization’s new presence within Lofts on 6th will allow it to deepen its impact and provide more integrated support to the community it serves.

“Lofts on 6th is more than just an apartment building. It’s a bridge to stability for seniors in our community,” said Maureen E. Luna, CEO of The Pantry of Broward. “For many of the seniors we serve, having safe, affordable housing is the foundation upon which nutrition, health, and social support must rest.”

PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP

The development represents a collaborative public-private partnership supported by community leaders, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private developers—all working together to address the growing need for affordable senior housing in Broward County.

Once completed, Lofts on 6th will offer:

  • 90 affordable one-bedroom residences for seniors
  • Community and amenity spaces designed to foster connection and engagement
  • On-site access to supportive nonprofit services
  • A modernized operational home for The Pantry of Broward
  • Long-term affordability and sustainability for residents and the surrounding community

MEETING FUTURE CHALLENGES

As Broward County continues to face rising housing costs and the challenges of an aging population, Lofts on 6th stands as a model for how affordable housing and social services can work together to create lasting community impact.
